Rough cast or Pebble dash. Whats the difference?
Often asked: “rough casting or pebble dashing, what’s the difference”? Well at a quick glance not a lot. However, look closer and there is a distinct difference; as is the way they are applied.
Probably the most distinctive difference is the finished look. Finished walls that are applied with roughcast does not have a smooth finish (hence called roughcast) but is all one colour.
It is then often painted to suit the house owners preference. Usually they are white or soft earthy colours. Pebble dashed however has a finish of small stones to give the colour.
How are they applied? If you decide rough cast is the way forward, material is mixed in with the mortar which then applied to the wall. The finished wall gives a much lighter texture look and all the same colour.
For the pebbledash finish; the wall is plastered and pebbles with various small fragments of stone are then thrown at the plastered wall and pushed in giving a colourful rough surface. The colours of the stones stand out to give its unique finish.
